A Strong Case For Mitt Romney as VP
March 7, 2008This really is an exceptional argument that addresses all of the issues a Vice Presidential pick should address: bring in an experience the Presidential candidate does not have (executive experience, private sector/vast knowledge of economic issues), the ability to deliver in key battle ground states (Michigan, Colorado, Nevada), help unify the party/build party organization and increase fundraising (organization and bringing in the money are things Romney’s campaign excelled), and appear as someone that could handle the job ably should something happen to the President. It is worth your attention.
Cheers to the Future: Romney eyes 2012
March 4, 2008http://www.politico.com/news/stories/0208/8701.html in this article it is suggested Romney can look to the Nixon/Reagan models as to how to keep active in planning for a 2012 run….good food for thought!
Karl Rove pushing Romney as VP?
March 3, 2008
Could this be true? Well if you believe Novak, that is what his sources are saying:
“A footnote: Karl Rove and other prominent Republicans are talking up a McCain-Romney harmony ticket despite personal dislike between the two presidential candidates. Romney also would have to overcome opposition to him going on the ticket by his closest advisers.”
A McCain-Romney, while it sounds great and all, might not be the best political move for Romney. Laura Ebke from RedStateEclectic said that being in a subordinate position as VP, especially since he has never been in such a role in his career, would not give Romney the limelight that he deserves. She also points out with the Obama Juggernaut lingering in the future, the likelihood McCain will win in slim unless something happen in the next 250 days. She continues to say that Romney should get out there, campaign for other candidates, and like in 1976 with Reagan, become the clear nominee in 2012.
Even though I kinda agree with her position, McCain needs to pick a conservative VP that the movement can rally around. It doesn’t have to be Romney, but he does fit the mold. In regards to will it score him political points, I tend to agree with his advisers that oppose the thought of him being VP. It doesn’t really give Romney an advantage for 2012, and can really only hurt him.
Yes, if McCain does become president, being the VP is a good position to run for president from. But Romney shouldn’t be the McCain “yes” man as VP. He need to focus on his personal brand as a conservative leader who will not sellout conservative principles for political gain. That is why I believe the VP spot might not be the best idea for him. Honestly, does he want to affiliated with a McCain administration?
Update: Josh Romney not running…
March 2, 2008Unfortunately, after all the hype, Josh has decided against running against Matheson in the 2nd district of Utah. He said that
“Just having come off a tough election with my dad, I think the family’s not quite ready to hop back into another race. It’s going to be nice to spend some time with the kids and take some time out of politics.”
Even though this is unfortunate news, this won’t be the last time we hear from Josh. He might run in 2 years. Lets hope he does because he is exactly what America needs.
Good Work from Catholic University
March 1, 2008Good article from Ryan Hamilton at Catholic University(written before the suspension of Mitt’s campaign):
“His [Mitt Romney's] record on economic turn around is beyond reproach: he made his wealth by turning around company after company and creating jobs and wage-payers for American workers. Staples and Domino’s Pizza are both marvelous examples of the fiscal wonders worked by Governor Romney.
Moreover, he took the Olympics from a scandal and debt ridden blemish on the United States and under a deadline and the scrutiny of the international community, turned it into the most successful games in recent memory and a success for our country.
The facts, the anecdotes, and raw reality is there for those who seek it; but McCaniacs are more than content to bury their head in the sand and in lockstep uniformity chant “straight talk, straight talk, straight talk” until the voting public has been lulled into a state where his lies, the tremendous scale of which are galling and despicable, go undetected. The real scandal and shame of this campaign season is the remarkable lack of respect for political discourse shown by McCain and his surrogates: veiled in the guise of “straight-talk” McCain distorts his record, tells out-and-out lies, and attacks the character of his opponents without fear, shame or hesitation.”
Farewell Buckley…
February 29, 2008William F. Buckley was the conservatives conservative. He led this movement to prominence in American politics and made sure that it always had a home. He could speak about the ideals like nobody else could. He was a true giant among men in his time. Unfortunately, hit time on this earth has expired and we are only now realizing what we are losing. We will all dearly miss you. Farewell William F. Buckley Jr.
